Support for Carers News

The Absolute Specialists Wellbeing team offers a listening ear to support carers who are finding their lives difficult at the moment due to isolation and other challenges brought by the Covid19 epidemic. We offer a friendly ear and a chance to share your problems, but more than that, we teach techniques that give you a healthier mindset and build emotional resilience.

We now cover Calderdale and Wakefield as well as Kirklees.

Below is news on the service so far and details of how to access it.

We are now nearly two months into our Support for Carers service, and we have made connections with many of the carer support agencies around Kirklees including Carers Count, Carers Trust and Social Prescribing link workers and we have given support to nearly 30 people so far.

We have more funding from The National Lottery to add to the generous support from Kirklees Council and can reach out beyond Kirklees to Calderdale and Wakefield, so we are seeking to connect with Carer support agencies in these areas. We can take referrals from care agencies, but people seeking help can also contact us direct – please help us spread the word by sharing our flier or a link to this website.

Feedback so far

The carers we have already supported have sought help for, amongst other things, anxiety, exhaustion, low mood, anger, pain and grief and 91% of clients reported in an anonymous poll that they found the sessions helpful while 85% have experienced an improvement in their symptoms after 3 sessions with a practitioner.

Here is some of the feedback we received:

“I appreciated being listened to and encouraged to try things that might help me.”
“Very friendly team- got in touch very quickly and responsive to needs.”
“Very professional and helped me to understand that grief and stress can be overcome.”
“Would certainly use the service again, learnt a lot of techniques, very useful. Thank you.”
How to access the service

Accessing the service is very simple. Carers can contact me direct, or a friend or agency can refer them. Once I receive a request I will ask a practitioner to make contact direct and offer a session over Zoom, WhatsApp or telephone. We are flexible and can work around carer’s commitments.

Call me: Clare Walters on 07984115927 or email me.

Rest assured that all our practitioners are highly trained, regulated and follow a strict code of practice.
